【Event Report】Study Group for Women in AI

2024.10.03 written by AIC

AIC held a two-day study group on artificial intelligence for women at the AIC Lounge in Hiyoshi campus’s Kyoseikan Collaboration Complex from September 25–26, 2024. This study group was split into two phases and aimed at women who are interested in learning more about AI. During the first phase, participants attended a series of lectures covering basic topics in AI. The second phase then explored forms of AI output through an “ideathon.”

The first day started with seminars on the history of AI, introductions to different types of machine learning, and concrete examples of AI technologies. Participants then enjoyed continuing their conversations during a break for lunch. The camaraderie that had been developed throughout the day solidified as the participants put their heads together in order to generate approaches for the upcoming ideathon.

On the second day of the event, AIC welcomed Yuki Takenaka, executive director of GLROWS, as a visiting lecturer. Takenaka has used his background in engineering and skills to launch new businesses and events in a variety of industries throughout his career. For the AIC workshop, he spoke about recent business trends that rely on AI as well as advice about finding job opportunities and career development.
During the latter part of the lecture time, participants joined an ideathon where they were asked to think of AI services that would be useful for students. After brainstorming together, participants used ChatGPT to summarize their ideas and then use Gamma and other generative AI tools to turn the outline into slides for a presentation about their suggestion: a multifunctional “Campus Copilot” for Keio students. This app incorporated techniques and approaches that the participants had learned throughout the lectures as well as practical applications based on real issues that students face on campus, making for an engaging and well-rounded presentation.
