The AI and Advanced Programming Consortium (AIC) is a research center within the Keio University Global Research Institute (KGRI) that provides an environment for students to study artificial intelligence, machine learning, and advanced programming on their own initiative.
AIC aims to foster human resources who can develop their own ideas into social implementations using their own technologies by providing students with an environment where they can conduct practical programming using real-world data through mutual cooperation with domestic and international companies, educational and research institutions, and local governments.
AIC will carry out the following activities to achieve the above purpose. Through these activities, AIC is engaged in various efforts to promote the use and diffusion of AI.
It has already been six years since the AI and Advanced Programming Consortium (AIC) kicked off its initiatives under the Keio spirit of hangaku-hankyo—learning while teaching, teaching while learning. Since AIC’s establishment, the AI landscape has evolved tremendously, and the advancement in generative AI technology has been spectacular. AIC is a student-led organization established with the aim of helping students engage in self-directed learning and grow together with their peers by teaching one another. We continue to explore cutting-edge AI technology and programming, transcending boundaries between undergraduate faculties and graduate schools. AIC also serves as a meeting point for industry and academia to come together and interact.
We are now facing an era of astonishing evolution in generative AI technology, where the state of knowledge and the way we handle it are undergoing rapid transformation. AI is evolving into more than just a useful tool; it is shaping up to be an indispensable partner in conceptualization, creation, and social design. At the same time, various issues such as social ethics, transparency, and human-centered design must be tackled head-on. With an eye on these trends, it is paramount that we continue learning while being cognizant of the need to adopt an inquisitive attitude in not only “exploring” but “reexamining” the latest technologies.
At AIC, we shall continue our efforts to co-create a curriculum that is well-suited for this age of generative AI, to nurture talented individuals equipped with both AI literacy and creativity, and to deepen industry-academia collaboration with a view to real-world applications. We will build a “co-creation ecosystem” where students, researchers, and companies can engage in free discussions and create new value with the AIC Lounge and the Generative AI Lab serving as hubs.
We hope that all students will make the most of this wonderful environment. To acquire AI skills is also to gain the “power to create the future.” At AIC, we welcome every student who wants to think independently, take a hands-on approach, and embark on challenges, regardless of their faculty or year level. The very first step you take will surely lead to new discoveries and encounters. Let’s embark on a quest for new knowledge together with our peers.
Our mission at AIC is to explore the co-evolution between AI and humans, and to draw up guidelines for a better future society. With your continued support, we will continue to pass on to future generations the culture of free and broad-minded learning that is one of the hallmarks of Keio University.
